I used to live in a tiny 5th floor walk-up in New York City, just south of the Manhattan Bridge, where little old Chinese men repair shoes in abandoned doorways and wrinkled grannies still sell homemade tea eggs on milkcrates on the sidewalk. For six months I ran a secret bake shop out of my kitchen, open for one long night every month and serving hundreds of people elaborate confections. When I lost the lease to my apartment I moved onto a boat and made a zine of some of my best recipes to memorialize this crazy sugar-rushed time.
